The 2010 Porsche Panamera S is a high-performance luxury grand touring sedan that marked Porsche's entry into the full-size, four-door passenger-car segment. Introduced for the 2010 model year, the 970-generation Panamera was developed to combine the driving characteristics and engineering associated with Porsche's sports cars with the passenger comfort, refinement, and practicality of a large luxury sedan. Unlike conventional three-box sedans, the Panamera adopted a distinctive four-door fastback design with a large rear liftgate, providing a spacious cargo compartment while maintaining a low, aerodynamic profile. Its elongated roofline, sculpted rear haunches, and prominent front fenders incorporated recognizable Porsche styling elements into a vehicle designed to accommodate four adults in comfort.

Power is supplied by a 4.8-liter naturally aspirated DOHC 32-valve V8 engine producing 400 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The direct-injected engine delivers power to the rear wheels through Porsche's seven-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission, which combines the efficiency and rapid gear changes of a manual gearbox with the convenience of fully automatic operation. Using two independently operated clutches to preselect the next gear, PDK provides exceptionally quick shifts with minimal interruption in power delivery. In this configuration, the Panamera S was capable of accelerating from 0–60 mph in approximately 5.1 seconds, with a top speed of approximately 175 mph. Its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive architecture and carefully developed chassis were intended to deliver the balanced handling and high-speed stability expected of a Porsche while retaining the comfort required for long-distance travel.

This example is equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus, which enhances the Panamera's performance-oriented driving characteristics through additional driver-selectable settings. The package includes a dashboard-mounted analog and digital stopwatch, a SPORT PLUS driving mode, and revised engine and transmission calibration for more immediate throttle response and quicker gear changes. On PDK-equipped models, the system also provides Launch Control, allowing optimized acceleration from a standing start. The Panamera S additionally features an automatically deploying rear spoiler, which extends at higher speeds to improve aerodynamic stability. This example rides on optional 19-inch Panamera Design alloy wheels fitted with a matching set of Kumho Ecsta PS91 performance tires, complemented by wheel center caps featuring full-color Porsche crests, and is equipped with variable-assist power steering.

The Panamera's interior was designed around a distinctive four-seat grand touring configuration, with individually contoured seats for all four occupants and a raised center console extending through the passenger compartment. Inspired by the cockpit layout of Porsche's sports cars, the center console incorporates an extensive array of individually arranged controls for the transmission, climate system, chassis settings, and vehicle functions. This example features Platinum Grey leather upholstery complemented by the optional Brushed Aluminum Interior Package, creating a contemporary contrast with the black exterior finish. Both front seats feature power adjustment with driver memory, while heated and ventilated seating for both front and rear occupants provides an unusually comprehensive level of passenger comfort. Additional equipment includes a power sunroof and a power-operated rear window sunshade.

Technology and convenience features include Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with GPS navigation, integrating the vehicle's audio, navigation, and communication functions through a centrally mounted touchscreen interface. The system is complemented by XM satellite radio and Bluetooth telephone connectivity. Rear ParkAssist provides audible assistance when maneuvering in confined spaces, while the Panamera's large rear liftgate and folding rear seatbacks offer cargo versatility beyond that of a conventional luxury sedan.

Originally carrying an MSRP of approximately $100,000, including more than $10,000 in factory options, this Panamera S represents a well-equipped example of Porsche's original four-door grand tourer. Its specification combines the naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8, seven-speed PDK transmission, Sport Chrono Package Plus, 19-inch Panamera Design wheels, and an extensive selection of comfort and interior appointments. As a first-model-year example, it represents an important milestone in Porsche's expansion beyond its traditional sports-car lineup.
