Porsche entered the sedan segment for the first time when it launched the original Panamera for 2010. Known internally as the 970, its design and its very existence were controversial, but the Panamera ultimately drew praise as the sportiest model in its segment, and it achieved this distinction without sacrificing comfort or luxury. The Panamera marked the beginning of an era for a new style of sedan that featured a swooping hatchback-like design. The S model was positioned near the middle of the line-up.

Power comes from a 4.8-liter V8, rated at 400 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission.
