The 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 marked a major redesign for the model year, introducing a stiffer hydroformed frame, rack-and-pinion steering, and improved suspensions for better handling. It features bold "big rig" styling, with options for a 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8, or 5.9L V8, along with 4-wheel disc brakes and a more comfortable, spacious interior.

The 2002 model significantly improved ride quality compared to its predecessor, with a front independent torsion bar system, along with a 40/20/40 split front bench seat and available power-adjustable pedals.
