The 1999 GMC Suburban 2500 is a heavy-duty, 3/4-ton full-size SUV built on General Motors' iconic GMT400 platform. Renowned for its massive towing capacity, expansive three-row interior, and truck-based durability, 1999 marks the final model year this vehicle wore the "GMC Suburban" nameplate before GMC rebranded its full-size SUV as the Yukon XL for the 2000 model year.

Unlike the lighter 1500 model, the 2500 series was engineered for serious utility, utilizing an 8-lug wheel configuration, stiffer suspension, and heavy-duty axles. Properly equipped models can tow up to 10,000 pounds.

The SLT was GMC’s top-of-the-line luxury trim package for 1999, coming outfitted with premium features including plush leather upholstery, heated power-adjustable front bucket seats, front and rear air conditioning, cruise control, and a CD/cassette player.

Power is provided by a 454-cubic-inch "Big Block" Vortec V8 engine producing 290 horsepower and a massive 410 lb-ft of torque at low RPMs. Power is routed to the front or all four wheels via a 2-speed Auto-Trac electronic transfer case linked to a heavy-duty 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission.
